These shorts are the best I have ever owned! They have a comfortable relaxed fit that hits a little above the knee, but not so long that it interferes with climbing ladders, crawling under the truck or attending a Hank Williams III concert. The heavy weight cotton stands up to the most humid summer day in my favorite urban heat island, Richmond, Virginia, without turning into a mass of wrinkles. These shorts are close to indestructable. Typically, I will only toss them out when there is more paint than fabric showing. I have never ripped or split a pair. I have one in every color they make.

I’ve owned, and own Carhartt parkas, shorts, shirts, and pants. They are absolutely the most durable, comfortable, and functional apparel items I’ve had. If Carhartt makes an item I need, I look no farther. For the dollar, they are one of the great clothing bargains of the day.

I’ve been buying carhart work wear for years, the pants, coats, and the shorts are quality products that don’t give up with a few washings and lots of abuse!

Without a doubt the very best work shorts I have ever owned. I’ve tried Dickies ( they were too stiff and too tight, even though I bought a size larger than I normally wear ) and Columbia ( they were WAY too expensive . )These shorts are very heavy, but not at all stiff. They wear well and hold up. After being washed several times they will take on a slightly softer color and feel. I buy these literally by the dozen, and wear them everyday. I live in a subtropical climate and even wear these in the winter. They are the perfect work short. Plenty of room, large pockets. A hammer loop, which I never use, but is there if you need one. Not too long, and certainly not too short. These are THE shorts to own.

Before Carhartt goes the way of L. L. Bean, Fox Racing Inc. , and Timberland (and Barney’s New York for that matter) stock up on great, genuinely tough, useful, comfortable, and attractive clothing like these shorts–and everything else Carhartt makes. These are clothes that make you feel and look good (“comfort clothes” you might say) while you’re rolling around in the dirt or even on your living room floor.
I laude the previous reviewer’s honesty in saying they’re great for wearing without underwear in the hot weather, because they really, really are. Jeans / denim and most cotton cloth can get hot, and that can be real uncomfortable particularly for a man’s ‘bait and tackle;’ whereas this cloth breathes exceptionally well. They’re particularly great for after doing endurance sports and taking a shower–when you’re body is still all reved up–as a loose, comfortable cool-down clothing that you’re fine wearing the rest of the day.
The pockets and loops are also very handy, not only for working on a car, bike, or doing construction, but also plenty big enough to carry your cell phone (even my Treo), keys, and wallet comfortably without being like those huge, ugly military-style thigh pockets.
I expect Carhartt might someday start marketing itself just like other great, functional brands that went hip-hop style or suburb/country sheik, and if they do it will be a real loss. But for now at least we can enjoy another in that long series of brands that became famous for function before it was popularized as a suburban teenager fashion and then ruined.
